Delta Expands Service to Europe
By RACHELL LEE HARRISAfter suspending flights to several European hubs over the last few years, Delta Air Lines, in conjunction with its joint venture partners, Air France and KLM, has announced that it will begin increasing flights to Paris and Amsterdam.
Beginning next summer, Delta will add nonstop flights from Newark Liberty International to Charles de Gaulle, in addition to its already existing nonstop service from Kennedy Airport. Hartsfield Jackson International in Atlanta will add another daily flight to Charles de Gaulle year-round, and Detroit Metro Airport will switch from seasonal to year-round service while also increasing capacity. Delta will also add daily flights to Paris from Logan International in Boston and to Amsterdam from Kennedy.
Delta is not the only airline with eyes on the European market. Though still awaiting government approval, United Airlines plans to begin daily nonstop service between Chicago and Shannon, Ireland, for the summer season and will add a third daily flight from Houston to London beginning in March.
