Delta wins best overall airline in business surveyUS airline Delta has won a prestigious award for Best Overall Airline in a survey by Business Travel News. It is the first time that Delta has won the award ahead of all other carriers in the contest's 14-year history. Business Travel News is seen as important to many airlines as it is "the industry's most well-read magazine by corporate travel managers". Delta President Ed Bastian issued a statement to the airline's more than 80,000 employees, stating that "this win is no doubt thanks to all of your hard work. All of our 80,000 employees have a hand in an award such as this one. From the frontline flight attendants whose service sets the industry standard to the information technology specialist who ensures our computers can help travellers rebook a flight seamlessly, everyone here plays a role in how our customers perceive the way we fly". The award, Delta claims, is recognition of the upgrades made to its service for business passengers. These upgrades have included renewed Delta Sky Clubs, increased numbers of full flat bed seats in its BusinessElite cabins and the introduction of more than 800 Wi-Fi equipped planes. Delta is investing more than $2 billion up to 2013 in airport facilities and global services for passengers. Last week it was announced that readers of Business Traveller magazine have declared Air Canada the "Best North American Airline" in its annual readership survey. Earlier this year Air Canada was named "Best Airline in North America" for the second consecutive year in a worldwide survey of more than 18 million travellers conducted by independent research firm Skytrax. Delta serves more than 160 million customers each year, and was named by Fortune magazine as the most admired airline worldwide in its 2011 World's Most Admired Companies airline industry list. The carrier has a joint venture with Air France-KLM and Alitalia and co-operates on transatlantic routes. Flights with Delta from the UK include the popular London Heathrow to New York JFK and London Heathrow to Los Angeles. |
